A Chartered Accountant by profession, Chermaine aims to share her knowledge and ideas on how to manage personal finance smartly and will cover a wide range of related topics including home economics, controlling income and expenditure, various types of investment and resources.

In each episode, Chermaine will introduce at least one simple concept or idea that will benefit viewers.

Trained in corporate finance with the largest investment bank in Malaysia and a Big Five international accounting firm, she was involved in preparing IPOs, restructuring, receivership and setting up a billion-ringgit infrastructure fund.

Chermaine won four titles in the Miss Malaysia / Universe beauty pageant before entering the entertainment industry. She has since become a popular actress and tv host and a versatile emcee who speaks fluent English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and several Chinese dialects, Japanese and Thai.

Her recent tv series, “SKII - Miracle Makers” and “Dapur Nyonya” scored very high viewership. The former launched her charity effort known as “Chermaine Poo’s Cupcakes for Charity” through which Chermaine hopes to raise funds on a regular basis to help the less fortunate.

After weeks of listening and learning from the stories of five inspirational Malaysian women as well as going on ground to help the needy, Chermaine Poo, host of ntv7’s SK-II Miracle Makers, is thrown with a big challenge to create her own miracle project to raise funds for a charitable organisation of her choice.

SK-II Miracle Makers is a brand new heartwarming series by ntv7 in collaboration with SK-II. This six episode series which airs every Sunday at 10.30 p.m. to 11.00 p.m., seeks to create miracles and make a difference in the society. For five weeks, Chermaine is given a task to interview and carry out a heart to heart talk with five philanthropists who have contributed greatly to the society. In the final episode of this series, Chermaine will have to organise a charity event or a charity drive from scratch.

“After interviewing the five miracle makers and going to the ground with them to help the needy, I was inspired to challenge myself to do likewise. I challenged myself to bake 1,000 cupcakes, to arrange for a venue to sell them and invite my celebrity and close friends to help in packing them, all in only two days. I didn’t sleep those two days, but the experience is very satisfying,” said Chermaine.

 Naming her charity drive as “Chermaine’s Cupcake Charity”, the TV actress and presenter headed down to Signature Kitchen in Kota Damansara last weekend to bake a total of 1,000 cupcakes single-handedly. Then she invited her celebrity and close friends to join her to sell them at Sunway Pyramid’s main concourse as part of her efforts to raise funds for “Shelter Home for Children”. Six beautiful and delicious looking cupcakes were packed in a box and sold for a starting price of RM50.

Dato’ Raymond Liew, President of international accounting firm, McMillan Woods Global said, “Our Group is always ready to give to charity and I feel that Chermaine’s challenge is really remarkable and deserves our support”.

 

“I think ‘Chermaine’s Cupcake for Charity’ is really amazing as it goes along helping the kids in the shelter home as well as bringing awareness to the public of what we can do to help the less fortunate ones,” said Josh.

 

The other celebrities who joined Chermaine in her mission are Lotus Cars Malaysia division head, Oh Kah Beng, celebrity hair-stylist, Albert Nico, Josh Lim of Advertlets, international fashion designer Nila Palacios, entrepreneur Carrie Fong and famous blogger Felixia Yeap. Chermaine who went all out for her charity drive, broke down in tears after seeing the encouraging support from the public especially her loved ones.

“The entire process had to be planned out carefully as I could not afford to lose any time. The long hours of baking were very tiring and the pressure to meet the target on time was tremendous. I kept reminding myself that my five mentors did exactly that - they kept on doing it and did not give up. I thank God for the strength and perseverance, and my family and friends for their encouragement and support, and ntv7 and SK-II for giving me the opportunity and platform to launch my charity drive,” said Chermaine.

 

 

 

Shoppers at Sunway Pyramid were also surprised with an auction which took place towards the end of the charity. Chermaine prepared a miniature cupcake and auctioned it to raise more funds for the shelter home that she is supporting. To everyone’s surprise, the miniature cupcake alone has fetched an unbelievable amount of donation from a generous donor. When I travel, I love to get down to every little detail of the country. As they say, when in Rome, do what the Romans do. Every trip to a different place in the world means a growing and learning experience for me. I’m not afraid to take up challenges. Even with these nicely manicured nails, I’m not afraid to clip them off if I have to in order to do rock climbing, abseiling and any other form of extreme sports. If you’ve been keeping up to date with my blog and videos, you can see that I’m indeed a very adventurous creature. I will grab any chance I can to challenge myself to the extreme. As the song goes, “Ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough.”

Being an actress, emcee and a tv host allows me to travel around the world as my assignments bring me to all kind of places. If I’m given this chance by MAS to travel and at the same time share my amazing and wonderful experience with many other people, I would definitely grab it without a moment of hesitation.
