Love at first sight
By Thomas Huong
THE Peugeot 206 CC sparked instant attraction for actress and television presenter Chermaine Poo when she first saw it two years ago.
Chermaine was shopping for a twodoor, four-seater car at that time.
“Also, it is stylish and sportylooking. The 206 CC fitted all my criteria. It was love at first sight, and I bought the car straightaway after test driving it,” recalled the celebrity who can be found often at the Sepang F1 Circuit as she presents television segments for Astro SuperSport and ESPN on motorsport events such as Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race.
Chermaine, who is an accounting and finance graduate as well as a chartered accountant, is also much sought after for emceeing jobs as she speaks English, Malay, Chinese, Japanese and Thai.
To date, she has acted in movies such as Lust, Caution directed by Ang Lee, killer bomoh flick Dukun and family drama Orange For Mama.
A versatile talent, she also acted alongside Mawi and Fara Fauzana in the local comedy-fantasy Jin Notti.
Her other film projects due to be released this year include the English language romance London Calling (directed by Khairil M. Bahar) and The Funeral Party (directed by Singaporean filmmaker Glen Goei and starring Huzir Sulaiman and Patrick Teoh).
Chermaine also co-produced London Calling, which was shot in Malaysia and the United Kingdom, and supported by lingerie manufacturer Wacoal.
Chermaine finds the 206 CC to be suitable for her hectic work schedule. She keeps piles of shoes, handbags and clothing in the boot and rear seats.
“My car is a mini wardrobe. I am constantly driving from one place to another for photo shoots and acting assignments,” said Chermaine, who makes sure her car is only sent to authorised Peugeot service centres.
Although the 206 CC has an electric-powered retractable hardtop, Chermaine hardly drives with the top down due to concerns about safety and weather.
Chermaine, who described herself as a careful driver, said the 206 CC has decent power and torque.
“The car feels very sturdy. Handling is excellent,” she said.
The colour also suits her. “I call it my green apple or green baby. I feel so happy when driving my 206 CC,” she added.
