Cheongsam has always been seen as the traditional Chinese dress, and Sunway Pyramid is celebrating that with its upcoming Miss Sunway Princess 2007.
The pageant, to be held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations, will explore the history of the elegant gown and its evolution through the pageant participants.

Successful applicants of the pageant would be attending workshops ranging from interview skills to grooming and makeup prior to the competition, to be held on Jan 27 with the grand finals on Feb 24.
Participation is opened to non-Muslim girls aged 16 to 21.
“We chose the age group because we want to promote the history of the traditional costume to a younger audience,” said Sunway Pyramid marketing director Kevin Tan.
“The cheongsam combines the elegance of Chinese tradition with unique elements of style and forms. Uniquely it doesn’t require any accessories like a belt or scarves to go with it and is designed to bring out the natural feminine softness of a woman.”

Miss Malaysia / Universe 2005 Runner Up Chermaine Poo would be hosting the pageant.
“This will be a great opportunity for young girls simply because they can learn more from the career workshops,” said Poo.
The grand prize for the pagent is RM5,000, a trophy and products worth RM1,000.
There will be prizes for the first runner-up, second runner-up and seven finalists.
